Extra Points
The creators should be commended for sticking to the horror genre without injecting unnecessary comedy. The film did not deviate much from the main plot. Also the horror story was told in a new way and this novelty factor helped the film to some extent.
The second half of the movie is the key as this is where the real mystery is revealed and the movie gets interesting after that. Pre-climax and climactic episodes are distinguished by tremors. The sound design was used very well and made the movie interesting. Pre-climax and climactic episodes are distinguished by tremors. The sound design was used very well and made the movie interesting.
Thiruveer's role as Gopi is simply brilliant. He is very good as an innocent young man. The amount of fun that comes out of his character makes for some great laughs. No comedy track, as said, but his character was used for fun. Sangitha has done quite well as a worried mother and her performance carries the film further.
Negative Points
The film runs on a very slow note most of the time and especially the first half is a bit slow. The transition from scene to scene in the first half is not good and better screenplay would have enhanced the effect.
The love trail between Thiruveer and Kavya gets more screen time and is not effective. On the one hand, the interesting horror aspect is missed and whenever the love track comes, the movie becomes a bit boring. This romantic part also doesn't fit the actual plot and so these scenes could have been a little shorter.
Another major drawback is that the film is predictable at times. The film may not appeal to everyone as it works on a completely serious note. Length is an aspect that manufacturers can take proper care of. The first half parts especially needed serious cutting.
Technical Aspects
As mentioned above, there is technical brilliance throughout the film. Background music by Prashanth Vihari creates a beautiful atmosphere and keeps one interested. The sound effects during the climactic parts give the film a good ending. Cinematography is another asset as it captures the mood of the film properly. The production values are superb.
The editing could have been better. As for the debutant director Sai Kiran, he has done a good job with the film. His idea of making a good horror film is good, but the script could have been better suited to his vision. Also, having more scary moments in the first half would have improved the situation.
Verdict
All in all, Massoud works to some extent with his innovation and originality. The performances and technical brilliance give the film a nice depth, but the problem is with the slow pace and lag in the first hour. Those who like to watch horror movies can watch it.
